Anticipation

Mary’s Monday Musings to Quilt Encouragement

Anticipation

Excitement was running high in my house. We were anticipating the visit of our out-of-state son and some of his family including his twin grandbabies. Delighted at the prospect of a visit, we stocked our cupboards with snacks. The beds sported fresh linens. With wide smiles we told friends that we expected company and so looked forward to our family’s arrival. Our days focused on the upcoming pleasure of spending time with beloved family. Anticipation allows us to glean extra pleasure even before the actual delight of the event itself.

Can we consider that God looks forward to spending time with us?  When we determine to settle down with our Bible or kneel in prayer, does He anticipate great pleasure from spending time with us? If we think He does, we are more strongly motivated to make time to talk to Him, to ask Him questions  and to listen in the silence that follows for the nudge of His answers. Do we open our Bible or kneel in prayer with anticipation of hearing His heart about our life on this earth?  We can ask Him to help us experience the delight of anticipation about communicating with Him, to draw us into a sense of gladness about spending time with Him. The joy of embracing our visiting family lived up to the anticipation we had, and the memories still bless us now they are back in their home. Let’s spend time with our Lord in prayer and conversation and see if we can learn to anticipate connecting with God. Just as we build a treasure of memories when we spend time with friends and family, we build a treasure of eternal significance when we include time with God in our days.
