A Curious Setup

The unusual arrangement of chairs puzzled us when we entered a room in our church used for many kinds of gatherings. Different in color and shape, why was this tall, black leather chair placed, of all places, in the midst of the front row of standard, matching blue, cushiony chairs? If it was for a handicapped person, it would surely hinder the forward view of the people behind it.  If it was for someone presenting a program it was facing the wrong way. Why was that different chair in that particular spot?  Was it a joke for someone? It certainly succeeded in getting our attention, and it set us thinking.

While people come in many different sizes and shapes, and while sometimes an unusual way of dressing makes a certain person stand out in a crowd, most of us blend rather easily in the background of a crowd. Sometimes God creates a person to stand out for a particular reason.  Perhaps He wants to use whatever is singularly noticeable about each of us to accomplish something distinct in the Kingdom of God.  If there are no physical characteristics that are particularly noticeable about us, what gifting has He granted us to make a difference in the lives of those around us? That chair, which looked out of place in a row of chairs gathered for seating a group of people, would be very useful to sit on in front of a computer on a higher surface. Or it would seat someone nicely for a meal at a higher counter. Each of us has qualities that make us perfect for certain roles in life. Ask God to show you where He wants you to fit in for the roles He wants you to perform which will help people understand His love as well as how much he cares about each individual.
