Kamikaze Cars

Mary’s Monday Musings to Quilt Encouragement

Kamikaze Cars

Three kiddy carts careened crazily around the back yard as four to six year olds steered them. Those of us trying to snap a few pictures needed quick reflexes to jump aside and avoid getting bumped. Laughter rang as the little ones braked, backed and darted ahead. Plenty of adults were quick to grab a steering wheel when needed to insure fun without damage. The fun gave evidence to the wisdom of age-restricting laws for operation of full size automobiles!

I wonder how many times we look like crazy, kamikaze kiddy car drivers as we dart, steer, and brake around our daily chores, our to-do lists and other activities, making about as much sense as a group of kids playing with kiddy cars at a birthday party. Does God chuckle as He grabs the steering wheel of our agenda and redirects us when we are headed for a figurative crash? When we arrive in Heaven someday, I wonder if we’ll see where He rescued us from emotional collisions or stopped us in time to avoid going over a disastrous cliff. I’m guessing there are times when He puts on our brakes to prevent physical exhaustion. In addition He may send  angels when we are in danger in an actual car. How many times does God put a maturity restriction on some pursuit we want to engage in, but He knows we aren’t ready yet. Thank you, God, for all the times you protect us and we don’t know it. We even thank You for the times You restrict us, and we chafe at the constraint. Make us sensitive to Your guidance. We rejoice in Your care for us.
