Celebrate Freedom

Mary’s Monday Musings to Quilt Encouragement

Cause to Celebrate

Green grassy fields and foliage beckoned us toward the attractive brick plantation. In colonial days, this house sheltered a large collection of books about every kind of government system ever tried. Montpelier was James Madison’s home where he studied about the strengths and weaknesses of each form of government. Known  as the author of the Constitution, we are grateful for his diligent study. Our country thrives from his informed leadership as the founding fathers grappled for the basis of our government. Over and over as we toured the home and grounds, we were impressed with his amazing intellect and clarity of thinking.

All the men who gathered to determine how to structure our government were not in total agreement on every point, but God used them to bring about the foundation of a country which, while not perfect, has brought freedom and prosperity to its people, imperfect as we are. James Madison’s study revealed the flaw of men making  political roles into lifelong positions. That kind of power seeds corruption. The founding fathers built safe guards into our system to encourage the turnover of power. God has used the stability and wealth of this nation to spread His Word and touch hearts across the world. As we celebrate the birth of our nation, our hearts overflow with thankfulness for the way He used men to wrestle with ideas and establish a nation where we are free to worship God. Thank you God for the freedom to worship You.
