Brrr!

Monday’s Monday Musings to Quilt Encouragement

Brrrr!

Winter arrived last week. Our ten degrees in Eastern Virginia was nothing compared to the sub zero temperatures elsewhere, but it was cold enough to make us drip the faucets and pile an extra blanket on the bed. We were so thankful we didn’t lose power during the snowstorm, and our house stayed nice and warm while we enjoyed the beauty of the snow and icicles from our windows.

We were glad to discover many ministries in our city have programs that help the homeless in times of extreme cold. We remember years ago, during an unusual cold snap, the newspaper reported a homeless man froze to death in a woods near our community. In his case, he clung to his habits and refused help. How often do we choose to stay out in the cold of our harsh world instead of surrendering our independence and entering into dependence on God? If we knock on the door of Jesus’ heart, we come in out of the cold– into the warmth of God’s love. His love melts the hard places where icicles have crystallized our thoughts, making us abrasive and freezing our relationships with others. We need the warmth of God to warm the chunks of snow that make us skid in our decisions. If we ask, God will enter our lives and His warmth will give life to our relationships and decisions. Even in the cold of our circumstances, he warms our thinking and gives the snug security of His love.
